  1. 5.5 Gallon Inhabitants

When Purchasing livestock I usually try to buy from local reefers, LFS, on-line shops, and in that order. On this tank I have been especially slow to stock this tank as I drive back and forth between Georgetown and San Antonio for school.

    So far I have:

  2. So I'm new here, but got a few questions

Well, I found the site by the way of melev's reef... his 29 gallon is definitely the inspiration for mine.

I started a saltwater tank 3 years ago when I got my apartment. Frankly I always wanted a fish tank, the parents would have nothing of it, so when I got my own place, it literally was the first thing I did. My wife really got interested in it too after we had some diving trips in jamaica for our honeymoon, so she's one of the reasons we've had to turn it into a reef tank (oh ...

  3. Breeding Phyto, Prods and Rotis

This was all driven by Melevs thread on breeding phyto

    The History
    Pods
We started breeding in our bio 29 gal that we installed a sump and fuge on (about 50gal of water). Every month we added 1 to 2 bottles of pods that we bought from "somewhere". We found that as long as we added phyto, the fuge was always alive.

When we upgraded to the 120gal with 300gal of water, we broken off some of the pods and seeded the system for about 4 months allowing

  4. I am a new addition!

Just wanted to say Hi to everyone. I just signed up to Reef Addicts. I have had a 37 gallon FOWLR tank for 8 years. I just decided to step it up to a 162 gal in-wall reef tank. I just ordered it, and am preparing the wall and room behind. I will be making lots of posts and pics along the way. Since I am new to reef tanks, and advice will be helpful!

First question...what skimmer should I buy, and why? I will have a sump section for the skimmer. Have not built the sump yet.
  5. New RO/DI filters from Melev's Reef

The fed ex guy came to my door today. (yay company!) And brought me this nice little brown box from Melev's Reef. I got new filters for my RO/DI unit I purchased from http://www.melevsreef.com/rodi.html in August of 2008. Since I don't have a tank right now, the unit is residing underneath my kitchen sink and provides me with RO drinking water. I kid you not that I get compliments on my water when guests try it. "What kind of water is this, it tastes really good." So that's just a side benefit ...
