  1. Added a Calcium Reactor

I did say the build was going to be a slow burn. But, I am on my final month of 0% interest on my credit card that got me though all the home renovations and new appliances… So why not splurge just a little?

I’ve set every thing up on this tank with all the nice things the last tank never had… a sump... huge skimmer… LED… semi-automatic water changing… and now finally, the ultimate reef junky toy… a calcium reactor…

I decided to go with a GEO 612 Calcium Reactor ...

  2. Flatworm infestation on....

A neon green hammer coral of all things! Has anyone ever experienced this? I'll try to put a picture up. Very mobile brown patches that irritate the tentacles making them over inflated to the point that you can't tell that it's a hammer.

    Power failure:
When the power goes out and I'm out of town, I get an email & a text to let me know. What I don't get is a follow up to let me know power has been restored. It can break accidentally and grow where it lands. But how does is show up on the side of some random rock all of a sudden? Are polyps blowing around and landing elsewhere, growing new colonies? If so, that's news to me.

I spotted this little guy in April. Granted, it's low enough that there is ...
  5. Boring Algae - as in the kind that bores into a coral skeleton

Many years ago, I had an SPS die in my 29g reef. I was told that it likely died due to boring algae. Unsure what they meant by that, I asked for a little more information since the coral never had any type of algae on it while it was alive. I was told that the skeleton being green was an indication that a type of algae was within the skeleton itself, that it had bored its way into the coral and weakened the living tissue. The most common cases of boring algae are when a system has very high ...
