  1. Breeding System Update

The last time that I updated Reef Addict on the breeding there were just shelves with no tanks/sump or fish. A little over three months later it is now operational with tanks, a complete sump, and all the fish moved from the prior system. Here is how it all took place.

29G Drilled and placed in the their positions.

  2. DIY LED Sources

    Hi All-

Seems like every post I read about DIY LED on the interweb uses CREE lights. While not a bad LED, people should at least consider the Philips Luxeon light here:

    http://www.luxeonstar.com/

There are several advantages. The Luxeon lights are significantly brighter, consume the same power, have many various avaliable lenses, and offer a neat tri-star package where you specify three LED's and they solder them onto one chip. Other places I have ...

Every couple of months I take them down, remove the glass to clean both sides, and reinstall them. This keeps them nice looking ...

  5. Lighting opinions.

Ok, so I'm about to order new bulbs for my outer orbit fixture and can't decide what I want to do.

Currently, the fixture has 2x 150w Metal Halide's, 20k, which are new bulbs right before I bought it. I love the color of them, very very white, slight tint of blue.

It also has 4 48" t5's with individual reflectors. Right now they are 4 460nm actinics, but I was thinking about only running 1, possibly 2 actinics, as I know actinic bulbs put out very little par.
