  1. Lighting - filling up an empty light rack with MH and VHOs

In a previous blog, I showed how I assembled and secured a light rack (using EzTube) to the ceiling. Here's the link: http://www.reefaddicts.com/entry.php...t-rack-project

With the livestock in the 400g, it was time to get the lights placed overhead, and everything that entails. I use Lumenbright reflectors, and have had them for a few years. Every couple of months I take them down, remove the glass to clean both sides, and reinstall them. This keeps them nice looking ...

  2. Small modifications make good solutions

Over the past couple of weeks, little changes were made to adjust circumstances that resulted in better conditions with the 400g.

    1) The water line was just under the plastic trim of the tank. I don't like that look since it usually cause "light leak" into the room. Rather than having to look at that beam of light, I prefer to raise the water level in the display tank. Taking a scrap of 3/8" acrylic, I placed it in the overflow behind the teeth and this increased the height of ...

  3. Fishroom Vent Fan

To keep humidity levels down in the fishroom, it's important to have a vent fan that exports moist air out of the home. During the remodeling project, I tried to clean up the old fan but it had shorted out, leaving a dead motor in its wake.

When the 280g was running, the vent was directly over the tank. I felt that was the perfect spot because it would exhaust heat from the ...

  4. Day 60 - Video

April 6th was the 60th day since my reef was set up, so last night I shot some video, assembled it on in iMovie on my iMac, and here's the result.

I shot it with my D90, but it seems a little soft. Over time, I'll probably need to get a better HD camera to share some crisper vids. I hope you enjoy it.

  5. The weather broke for a day, and I seized the moment to paint

I've been wanting to paint the fishroom floor for over two months, but never had the right conditions. Yesterday, the weather was 64F for the high compared to the day before when it was 85F. I pulled out everything scattered around the fishroom floor, grabbed the air hose from my compressor and blasted dust everywhere, swept up the mess and damp mopped the concrete to get rid of any other dust.

Btw, that cloud was ominous and a lot of it settled on the surface of the reef. Not exactly ...
