  1. Found one problem with my reef's chemistry

Tonight once the fish went to sleep, I did a decent water change, changing 50 to 60g worth of saltwater. I didn't measure it, it was dumped down the drain and replenished with more from the saltwater storage vessel. There's about 90g left in it at the moment.

With all of my lights off, I tested Alkalinity. Lately, it seems no matter which direction I face, the lighting from around me and the plant life outside throws off the color of the titration kit, so in a white room with ...

  2. Chemi-Clean and Skimmer Cleaning

So today I decided to deal with the Cyano that started in my new frag tank that was connected to the system during the summer. I believe the initial outbreak was a combination of: 20 lbs of new sand and the new acrylic frag tank itself. It has been mentioned in a few publications that new plastic parts initially leach a few things like silicates and such into the water column. Anyway the Cyano started there and only moved to the display upon me moving some frags to the display.

My Diy Stirrer Plate (lots of videos)

I dose alkalinity and calcium to my tank via a bubble magus dosing pump. However, despite the fact that it’s said that after mixing soda ash and calcium carbonate powder with distilled water into their respective container they are supposed to stay mixed, I have had quite the opposite experience. Although there isn’t sediment resting at the bottom of the containers, the liquid is more concentrated throughout different areas, making constant tank ...

  5. My Biopellets

    Biopellet Reactor:

I ran a NextReef SMR1 Biopellet reactor on my last tank, and had really good results with it. The constant carbon source help grow and feed bacteria that keep the nitrates and phosphates reduced. The levels were undetectable in my old tank. I feel this stability is necessary for optimal growth and coloration in keeping SPS. I was debating on adding the reactor now while the tank is new, or waiting 6 months or so till the reef was more mature. So I called ...
