  2. What does Phosphate look like?

The title is just a tad misleading, but I thought I'd show you what it looks like to me.

Using a Salifert PO4 test kit, I measure the water from my reef tank for Phosphate. The ideal reading is 0 to .03ppm (yes, it should be super low). Over the years, I've seen numbers as high as 3ppm in my tank to as low as 0. For the past 23 months, I've been dosing vodka daily to maintain lower nitrates, and it helps keep phosphate from rising but doesn't omit them like it does for others. ...
  3. Setting up my new Bubble Magus BMT-01 doser!

This weekend was crazy with spring league hockey and golf so this is my first chance to post my first experience with my new doser. The three pumps will eventually be used to dose alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium. For now, it'll be just the big two.

I came across some great deals though, and I ended up with a 90 and a 24x24x20 (50 gal) for a total of $100 and a few frags. I'm building two stands for them that will link together and look like one, and then the 90 will be a reef and the 50 a frag tank.

I'm going to use my current 55 as a sump with a separate return to each tank and glass baffles added for a skimmer and fuge. ...

  5. Update - my new 58g, 5 weeks old

Here we go, time for a 5 week update on my new setup. I transferred my old setup to this tank in early May. The set up blog is here. Everything is starting to settle in. The corals are looking much happier and the sps are continuing to colour up. At this point, as was with my 40g, I am having decent luck keeping healthy SPS frags coloured up, it's just that the brown frags I purchased are taking a bit of time. But with 5 weeks under the new set up, corals I thought were down and out are turning ...
