Marc, are you using 2 new Darts on the 400?
if not, do you have your old system plumbed into your 400gal new tank?

i see you have the skimmer and reactors in the 400, does that mean your not running anything on the Temp setup? or do you plan on moving everything over within days so the time without skimmer and such wont matter?
(unless all of this is part of the story or podcast later??)

How about a sump pic? I would like to see that beast in action. How many lbs of LR is in the tank? The tank is so big that it looks there isn't enough.LOL So it will be another month or two before anything goes init correct?

I notice VETERAN Reefers who have paid their dues and suffering from one arm now noticeably longer than the other use less live rock and put it NO WHERE near the glass, smart move ....

Marc, what would you say is the trend or formula for minimum pounds of LR per water volume to be an effective bio filter? I've thought of taking more out of display and if I have to make it a "first stage to sump" container ....

I'm guessing that is just the live rock from the 280. did you clean it up or was it always that clean? Are you planning on running 4 Vortecs: two on the end and two on the back?

im sure there is more rock in the Temp Setup with corals attached to it. (im sure the aquascaping will change as well.)

Congrats, I bet your itching to move livestock now.

I have two Dart pumps running on the sump. One is the return pump, and one is for the manifold. There are a bunch of pictures of those in a previous blog. http://www.reefaddicts.com/entry.php...ith-Penductors and http://www.reefaddicts.com/entry.php...-a-single-pump

The temp set up is very simple right now. Just twin 100g vats with the MH lighting, and the sump with a single filtersock in the middle. There's a bunch of LR in the sump.

The sump pictures will be posted tonight. I got all the images edited today. I don't know how many pounds of LR I used, but I still have at least 100 lbs left over from the previous tank. I hope to get the livestock in the system very soon, but need to test to see if the rock is cycling.

With the filtration we have at our disposal, I don't feel as reliant on LR as I have in the past. I've followed the recommendation of 1 to 1.5lbs per gallon for many years, but with this tank I wanted something simpler and lower profile. Not quite minimalist, but cleaner. I'll have to take some video to show the many nooks and holes that permeate the structure that I'm sure the fish will enjoy darting through.

I could still put some LR in the sump if there was a need, or even a little more in the display, but for now this feels right.

This is only part of the rock from the 280g. I probably used half of it, maybe a little more. It was very clean coming out of the tank last July, and has been in the blue barrel for six months. No light got to the majority of the rock, and essentially it didn't shed all that much. I attribute the clean rockwork to the Vortech pumps, because I've seen other tanks that silt out like crazy due to a lack of flow.

I'm going to put two Mp60s on the end of the tank, and plan on putting my 40s on the back. Talking to Tim today, he thinks I won't need the 40s at all.

Congrats Marc, really like the aquascape so far, can't wait to see it after you get the rest of the items in your holding tank in it. Don't know if you have already mentioned it, are you going to put anything on the back glass or leave it as is?

I stood I my roof and looked toward Austin and I think I saw fireworks .... wahoo !!!!

Is it all new water? New sand? Was the sand active? No cycle needed ? This is great education for when I'll upgrade some day.....

I would like to put a cover on it. Originally a film or limo tint, but maybe I'll use black acrylic since that is solid and yet removable for picture taking and personal enjoyment.

The water is 250g of new water, 150 of used saltwater. The sand is all brand new Tropic Eden dry sand coupled with some of their Live Sand. I added two cups of live sand from my previous refugium to the new one for a little diversity.

A cycle wouldn't be necessary had things been moved over quickly, but with the rock out for so many hours, resulting in sponge die off, I'm going to have to test the water to see if it is safe or not.
