  1. vortech pump placement and modes

hey all, i have a 55g reef tank and im currently using a single mp10 to create the flow in my tank for a long time i used it on one end of the tank and it kinda left the other side of my tank dead, i intend to purchase antother one when i get a chance and find a good deal on one. anyways i recently moved the vortech to the back of my tank and about 6" from the surface of the water and dead center in the tank, it seems as of right now that this is the optimum placement for my tank, along with ...
  2. well, I broke down and did it....

I finally did the one thing with this hobby I swore I would never do. Not that what I did was a necessarily bad thing but I just had a hard time convincing myself that it was worth it. What exactly is it you might ask? I finally broke down and purchased a Vortech Mp40. That's right I swore to myself that I would never spend that much money on what always amounted in my head to a very expensive power head but, as I have gained a very generous promotion at work and would like nothing more but to see ...

  3. My tank after switching

I took a video today but my battery ran out. Things are looking better already, even though most of the corals have lost a lot of tissue that seems to be slowing. My nitrates are high, and I did a water change yesterday and I'm planning to do another here in a couple of days.

To date it appears better to me, but for comparison's sake I took a few pictures of the tank last night. In one picture the scenario is comparable to the scenario under which the picture from my other post was taken. In the other I have turned off the protein skimmer and then actually shut off the return (for those unfamiliar ...

  5. Microbubbles in main tank...?

So I believe I have microbubbles getting into the main tank. I was looking at the water in my skimmer section today and noticed that it had a decent amount of froth on the water's surface (nothing spectacular just some definite buildup of frothy sections). Then I got looking at the skimmer section and noticed a ton of microbubbles, no surprise yet. Then I took a look at my bubble traps. Bubbles were going down the hatch at an alarming rate. Then I looked at the bioball section thinking that ...
