James and Becca's 210 Reef Tank

Rate this Entry
We started our hobby about 5 years ago with a 55 gal reef tank. We have since upgraded to a 210 gal reef tank which is built into our living room wall. It makes for a great conversation anytime anyone comes over. Our experience has had a lot to do with trial and error, however we would not be where we are now without our LFS (Coral Reef Aquarium) in Ardmore, Oklahoma and Melev's Reef. Thank you guys!!! Our only trouble with our tank is the fact that we have not been able to add more rock or corals due to the aptasia that have taken over our tank. It seems no matter what we try they just will not go away!!! We are not giving up as we keep trying different ways to get rid of them. Everyone has their villians right?! Batman has The Joker, Superman has Lex Luther, and reefers have aptasia!! LOL

Here are pictures of our tank. I don't really know how to post pictures correctly yet, so this will have to do for now!! LOL

Thanks for sharing your images with us. It looks like you've got a little future reefer there to help you.

Aptasia....I hate it. Occasionally I've had luck with a specific type of peppermint shrimp. I don't know where they are from specifically in the world but they are like godzilla of peppermints. Mine got larger than my cleaner shrimp and mowed down aptasia like a weed

Same here, peppermint shrimp. The stuff was gone in like 2 days.

I have put 30 peppermint shrimp in our tank over the last few months. starved my fish and corals so the peppermint shrimp would stay hungry and take care of them. It worked for the first few weeks but now they are just as bad as they were in the beginning. Got tired of starving my tank due to everything else suffering. Fixing to try a new approach with the peppermint shrimp. We are plumbing in a 10gallon tank to my system and putting nothing but peppermint shrimp in it and add one rock at a time from our tank and maybe this will work.
