So, I wasn't crazy about the potential energy consumption of this new hobby. All the pumps, heaters, lights, timers, skimmers.... I saw a post about using a sky light and I thought that it would be a slick place for one. I went up in the attic and verified that I would only have to move some electrical and one beam. The bean was actually a stringer accross the ceiling joists, so I felt that I could cut it out and move it over when the time came. I added the skylight to google sketch up.

I'll probably supplement the natural lighting with some actinic T-5s off a timer strip that is not yet modeled. It looks like it should fit where I need it to. I am planning on adding a 13" diameter solar skylight tube thing above the tank that will replace that fluorescent can light in that first pic. The total tube length will be about 8 feet, up to the hole in the roof.

I'd like to fit the actinics into the tube so that they are not visible. The brown floating octagon may be a pseudo hood. I'll probably house my blue LED christmas light string, and maybe some fans in it. This part was still up in the air. The tank will have the quiet, submerged overflows thru a coast to coast overflow across the back, since the overflow box on the current one sounds like a running toilet. The master bedroom is on the other side of the wall, so I'd like it to be pretty quiet. The last pic shows where the plumbing will come out the back of the tank. I am going to try to run it down inside the wall.
