As the need arises, I perform water tests for various parameters, but usually I do the full battery of tests monthly at the minimum. Much to my shock, I discovered that I've not done so since Dec 31, 2009! So here are my results from today.



The one number that is the biggest concern is Phosphate, which is way out of whack. It isn't surprising because my skimmer hasn't been operating correctly for some time now, but I hope to have resolved that today after a few hours of elbow grease. I'll dose my tank with Phosphate Control tonight to help export some. I dosed it about 10 days ago, but the skimmer didn't pull it out unfortunately. Some of my corals are browning, so the test result is true.

    Im slowly converting all my cheap test kits I bought to cycle with over to Salifert.
    Its amazing how different the results are between the two.

    In a way, that's a little frightening too, right? It's best to open a new kit and compare it to the old one to see if the readings are close before officially making the switch. Any test kit you purchase should have the purchase date written on it. Then the day I open the kit to use it, I write that date down. A kit is usually good 12 months from the date it is opened for the first time.

    I tested the PO4 level today, and it was between 0 and .03ppm. Phosphate Control is an awesome product.
