Mp10es falling off!

Rate this Entry
I recently purchased 2 brand new MP10es Vortech marine pumps for $22 dollars a piece. they were shipped too my store and sat in a closet for about 2 years and then went on clearance so I could not pass them up!!!! now one of the pumps is fully operational and works amazingly. However my other one does not . So here is my situation. I put the first MP10 on a few days before the second one and i left the other in its unopened package in the box in my car to show everyone how cheap I got these pumps for! however tragedy has struck :/

Upon placing my second pump into my 100 gallon reef tank ( measurements 48 in x 24 in x 20 in) and the pump worked fine for about.. oh I'd say 5 or 6 minutes. I was ecstatic to see two vortechs in my tank! ( I am a reefer on a budget with 5 tanks. I only make a little above minimum wage at two jobs -_-) but then something happened. There was a weird noise coming from my new Vortech and no sooner had I walked over to investigate when the wet side of the vortech in the tank instantly feel off of alignment with the dry side and hit my sand bed and the dry side was flailing wildly on the outside of the tank!!!!! I was nothing short of dumbfounded.

So, I realigned the wet and dry sides several times and changed the power on the controller going from green, to blue, to orange, etc. but all yielded the same result! The wet side would only work for about 5-6 minutes then hit the sand bed causing the dry side to vibrate off of the glass!.

Now I have run just the dry side for hours and nothing has gone wrong so I believe that the wet side is the coulperate for my problems here! however I am not sure because I have never owned any Vortechs before. And being a hobbyist on a budget I would prefer to not pay $62 for a completely new wet side if it can be avoided!

So mark or anyone else please I need Suggestions so PLEASE HELP ME!

You can talk to Ecotech directly, but for now I would check the wetside to make sure it is spinning freely. If you find that it is snagging on anything, that would be the cause of them separating. Addtionally, the Mp10 Vortech pumps are designed for 3/8" glass (maximum thickness). If your tank is more than 3/8" wide, that would be the issue.

Do you have the dry side secured by the cable tie to the square sticking pad? It's important to secure it from falling to the floor.

NBD means No Big Deal and i was saying it in a sort of sarcastic way because obviously being someones idle is a big deal hahaha and sorry but the saltwater hobby is just my life I have 5 tanks sadly i can only afford one big reef tank and the little 6.6 but this is what i do with myself. I am a Saltwater aquatic specialist at a corporation and at a mom and pop pet store and i run my own tank maintaining business with my dad and im a full time college student. and like i said i would like to work where you do or at ATM haha and I am planning on opening my own saltwater store if those dont work out which they probably wont lol

Also I watched your interview with Brett. I love the show and have had many people complain about their methods and my counter argument is that obviously they dont just use straigh tap water when they are dealing with Imperadors, regal angels, blue ring angels and last but far from least my favorite fish the Achillies tangs! all of these fish are of the expert level in my opinion so obviously they are not putting them in straight uncycled water -_- especially the achillies so, my question to you is, do u believe in "instant-cyclers" from a bottle or do you not and prefer the normal way of cycling a tank. ( I used the cocktail shrimp method I read on the other site about 14 days ago and the water didnt cycle to 0 0 and 0 for nitrates nitrites and ammonia :/) however my standard method before the shrimp was 2 weeks of everything set-up and running, then at the end of those two weeks add 2-6 GREEN CHROMIS (damsels are too aggressive and too hard to catch with LR in the tank) and after putting in the chromis u wait 2 months, no water changes just topping off the system and at the end of those two months u can begin to add more fish that are beginner level (clowns, pseudochromis, dottybacks, etc.) and then go from there waiting 1 month before the purchasing (and 4-6 week quarantining of new fish). this method has always worked for me but do u have any other ways of cycling?

    I was teasing you, because:

idle = spend time doing nothing

idol = a person or thing that is greatly admired, worshipped or revered.

So you can see how I've never been called idle before.

Sounds like you are busy too, and you have a dream as well. That'll take you to new heights, in time.

When I cycle a new tank, I use LR and raw shrimp. The shrimp rot in the tank for three days, then they are pulled out and the cycle has commenced.

Not everything we see on TV is real. You can tell the arguers that 40+ hours of video is shot for a 44 minute episode. A lot hits the cutting room floor. I've heard great things though... Season 2 is shooting in less than two weeks. Animal Planet is planning two holiday specials. 10 more episodes. The demographic is from 23 years old to (something like) 59 across all types, not just the male audience as expected. It is doing extremely well and AP is happy to invest more obviously. I'm hoping for bloopers, personally.

lol pretty sneaky mark and oh well crap. the other site says 10 days! :/ thats what i did....
  13. Blake's Avatar
how long after the 3 days do you wait to add fish then?
  14. melev's Avatar
Oh, a few weeks. I keep measuring the tank daily to see what the Ammonia - Nitrite - Nitrate levels are. If no discernable spike occurs, some livestock can be gradually added like you described. If the cycle does happen, then I wait until Ammonia and Nitrite are 0 and Nitrate is 20ppm or less.

spoke to a representative at EcoTech by the name of Brett. Awesome guy very kind and understanding. He is sending me a completely new wet side free of charge! He's even paying for the shipping of the faulty wet side back! (most places make u pay for the return shipping -_-) very please now both of my $22 MP10 es pumps will soon be simultaneously operational and I can start worrying about other things!
