magnesium

Marc recently posted about raising mag in his tank. That got me thinking I haven't tested mine in some time. Well, today it is 1050. According to the reef chemistry calculator I'm going to have to put 20 cups of Randy's 2 part to get it to 1400! Can that be right?

Yes, most likely. Compared to calcium or alkalinity, magnesium takes a considerable amount more to raise. I'd make sure to dose relatively slowly, not raising much more than 100ppm magnesium daily.

Correct, only 100ppm per day is recommended. But double check your Magnesium results first. Make sure your other parameter are within the target levels: salinity, calcium and alkalinity should be in range. And 1300ppm is probably fine, but I do prefer 1400ppm.
