Kenya Tree Coral Question!

Rating: 3 votes, 4.00 average.
When Kenya Tree coral multiply, how do they do it? Split apart to make two or drop baby seeds, how?

Thanks, I want to know so I can have proper placement in tank.

Thank ya Dyraxe foe the info. I heard they can multiply fast but mine came on a small piece of tonga branch and they stuck. I also have it overhanging. I need to mount the branch flat on another rock I believe.

Another question: I have a red at least 4" branch of what I believe birdsnest or digeta. (spelling?) Do I super glue gel it to a rock directly for proper growth? Does it encrust at bottom like a lot of SPS or what? For pic look at my tank in album. Red stick, top center.

One day I started noticing kenya tree branches that looked like they had been clipped off the mother colony just drifting around in the tank. I though that maybe one of my crabs or my pistol shrimp were taking liberties. The mother colony was given to a friend who stated the same thing was happening. We thought it was dying, but did some research, and decided it was just dropping branches to multiply. Sure enough, after a few days, the dropped branches attached where they landed, and the mother colony colored up again. It's a pretty cool process.

For your second question, yes, the base will encrust to whatever it is glued to. There are multiple methods that I have heard. Usually, I will find a "hole" where a frag will fit, and glue it in there.

Thanks Ghurlag!! That's pretty cool! My Kenya tree looks great but hasn't done what you said yet, I can't wIt till that happens. I just have my SPS stuck in a hole in th top of the tank. Do you think it will grow like that are I need to glue it to the rock?

If your SPS is "snug", then I don't see any reason to glue it, but if it moves with current changes, or you have snails or other critters that occasionally bump and move things (i.e. Turbo Snails), then you will want to glue it so that it will have an opportunity to encrust.

Thanks Ghurlag I'll see how snug it is and go from there. ;-)
