I would like to see what others opinions might be on using these bags for filtration. Any concerns on leeching? It seems they would be a lot easier to clean, and are cheaper too. I am looking at the 150 micron bags.

Can you get just the bags and not the metal sheath? What do they cost? You may want to get several for the simplicity of changing them out every three days.
Yes, you can buy just the bags. I have found $2.80 on the smaller ones and about $3.50 on larger ones. I am looking to diy a holder for them if no one had any concerns. It just seems they would be way easier to clean. Almost a rinse and go. I can post the website I have found if that's ok.
Sure, that's fine. It may be worthwhile for you buy some finer mesh bags for the occasions when you treat the tank with Phosphate Control. That way the particulates can be trapped quickly - a friend of mine uses 5 micron socks for that, and within hours the sock is overflowing because it captured so much. Since your ordering your normal ones, getting one or two fine ones might be the perfect opportunity and not have to pay extra shipping later. Or get one and try it out first for a week.
