LED's Does anyone on here have them on their reef tank?

Rating: 2 votes, 5.00 average.
I was simply wondering if anyone has built their own LED lighting system. I read two articles online about it and I totally want to try it. I have a 55 gallon tank, it's a fish only system for now because I haven't gotten up to the high end lighting that is required for a reef tank. Just wondering if anyone has tried this fairly new technology out yet. Here are some plans that I found:

I have looked at alot of articles and threads on other forums. Considered using them for my 55 gallon build but it seems like a lot of work and with everything else I am doing, building rock and stand, etc. Seems like the prices are comparable to other lighting thats out there and you would get a cost savings in the long run from lower power usage and not having to change bulbs.

One thing, like most "new" things is to see how they last in the long run. There are alot of contact points and a lot of places for things to go wrong.

You have to make sure your getting the right type of LED's to get the output and PAR ratings you need for growth. I have seen alot of cheap LED fixtures on the internet that claim they are full lighting but really they are crappy low cost and low out put moonlight arrays.

I'm getting one soon from a local club member/sponsor that builds retrofit kits. I'll post a blog when I get them in. He's really doing the right way and not skimping on the quality of parts. Here's his website: http://stevesleds.com/Home.php

I built a LED fixture for my 7.5g cube. I'll post a DIY blog as soon as I get a chance.

I am converting my 200 gal tank to LED using the Evolution light. Waiting on getting the canopy rebuilt in order accommodate them.
