I look forward to reading more posts and hopefully see some pictures when you start getting your build together, remember planning, consideration, and as much knowledge as you can gain is more important than the amount of money you have. if it takes a little longer to get what is necessary rather than settling it will pay off considerably in the long run keep us posted!

The first and foremost rule in this hobby is speed kills everything else is workable. I hope you ordered it from Marc because he ban's anyone that doesnt buy his ro/di units and I really like to see how your build turns out

hey that literally is what we are here for learning from others mistakes is a great way to avoid making them yourself and in this hobby mistakes usually cost money I was reading some of your older posts last night but I am not sure if I ran across this answer, what size tank are you setting up and what are you wanting to house? also I believe I had read that you were looking at maybe precycling some water, sand, and live rock while you get your stand together. I had done something similar to that in my setup and it did cut the time for the display tank to cycle but I still ended up waiting about a month for it to fully cycle.

@ cyano I am still trying to decide on the tank size. My thoughts for what I am trying to do will make it about a 33 gal nano DT. I am building a "bookcase" that will be 6' tall x 2'w x 2'd (might go wider and not as deep) that will have (2) tanks on the top and a sump in the bottom. Am thinking of making the top tank a refugium, the bottom tank my DT

as for stocking it..... not exactly sure want to start with LR, BTA and clown fish and see how that does b4 i venture into more expensive stuff

do some research on making one of the top ones a fuge, anyway you can get it setup where it doesn't return water from the fuge with a pump but a more gravity return will allow a much better percentage of copepods making it into your display tank rather than a larger percentage dying during transfer into the display tank , so before you get cracking I would say if you want a fuge fige something like that into your plans

i was thinking that the overflow return from the fuge would gravity feed straight below into the DT and then the overflow from the DT would gravity feed down to the sump. The return line would flow to both the fuge and DT with a valve to adjust the flow into the fuge.

sounds like you got that part under control. I prefer to return water to the dt from the fug via gravity when ever possible.

is there a way to add a sketch to this thread? will try and show what I am planning

goggle sketch up is a useful program and is free or windows paint I think has a free hand tool I think or the trusty old pen paper and scanner

Hey chuck, you can post a pic at the top original post. Just add it to what you said. Put the cursor over the title and you will see what looks like a pen I believe. Click it and just add ya picture. Then save it, so everyone knows you put a new pic post something like added pic. The only way to post a pic just in a reply post you would need to use something like photobucket.

Remember you can upload pictures to your own Gallery here on RA, and the use the IMG URL to show it. RA will host your image. Ideally, keep images around 800 x 600 so it fits most monitors.
