This orange fungia with green tentacles glows brightly, and I can spot it from across the room. I tried to clean it up in Photoshop, but this is about as good as it gets until I can figure out how to get my camera to accept the custom white balance adjustment.

A little bit of the birdsnest is hanging in there, but the bulk of the colony is dead. This was the only loss in my recent transfer, caused by a dip in alkalinity.

Marc, I am assuming that is the 60g that is under LED. Shoot those pictures in raw and then you can change white balance in photoshop.

I did shoot in RAW and it still didn't come out as nicely as I'd hoped. I talked to Jessy about it and she told me that I'd have to set the white balance first to get a better result. I can't seem to get the camera to accept the WB color I'm shooting. It always says "No gd" (no good), and I tried at least 100 times.

I have the same problem with my D5100. Sometimes I can get it to set using a piece of thin paper taped to the tank with a black X on it. Not always though. So now I just set WB to "Daylight" and live with the blue color cast, or cheat and use my speedlight above or to the side of the tank to add some white light. If there isn't any red or green light to start with, you can't add them in post.

When I had my 180g set up, I would take photos every now and then with the VHO actinics only. I have a D5000 and sometimes I would get the "No gd" error. In order to make it work, I had to do my manual white balance setting with a white plastic card that I had to put behind the glass, and I filled the viewfinder with the card. It didn't work all the time, but it worked sometimes. My only guess was that with the extreme blues the glass shifted the light enough to cause problems, but I don't really have a clue.

I'll have to try again some time. It would be nice if the camera got it right.
