Current water parameters

Rate this Entry
This has been a crazy week with my water parameters taking a hit due to the tank breakdown. The Alkalinity spiked up to 15 dKH, but I turned off the calcium reactor 5 days ago. Water temperatures have risen higher than I prefer, but I've got that normalized as well. The LR (live rock) in the barrel has been circulating and skimmed, and I've been checking it for Ammonia and Nitrite, but it never cycled. The sponges never started dying off, fortunately. I've started moving some of the rock into the livestock vats to help elevate some of the corals.

Amazingly, today's numbers were pretty darn near perfect. Zero nitrates! I guess if you get rid of the sand bed and the rock, and add 110g of new water, it magically drops to 0.

Well that should keep all the critters happy. How long you gonna have to wait on the new tank? Have heard anything from the concrete companies yet?

Did you type those specs yourself or is there a monitoring device and software that can be purchased to keep tabs on everything like that?, i know its a noob question but im always trying to learn something new and better my tank.

Some are from test kits, some are from my Aquacontroller 3, and then there's my refractometer. I keep all the data in a spreadsheet, and then create a graphic for my website: http://www.melevsreef.com/parms.html

Are you actually controlling ORP or just using it to monitor? I have thought about adding an ORP probe even though I don't run Ozone.

I'm only watching the numbers. I was just talking with a friend last week that said with the tank breakdown, this would have been a good time to run a tiny Ozonizer. He may have been right, but I don't have any experience with using one. The livestock has done well without it. /shrug
