a/c is out.....again

Rate this Entry
Well just thought I would give a little quick update. My wife got home to my alarm flashing on my reef keeper in alarm 1 Saturday which is what I have set for temperature. When that alarm gets tripped it shuts of my lights and heater (for sure) and flashes until the temperature is back with in range. Well unfortunately the A/C went out in the house (the compressor has a hole in the side of it) and since my wife wouldn't let me spend the money for a chiller (I don't blame her they aren't exactly cheap) the tank when I got home was reading 84 (bluh.) The repair guy can't fix it until Monday so I went and bought a window unit and installed it in the the only place I could which is in the living room turned it as low as it would go and let it run yesterday. I woke up this morning and the tank still is not within range for me to run my lights on it so I am now directing fans to blow the cold air into the room with the tank as well I have placed distilled ice into a zip lock bag that I have placed into the sump hoping to help drive the temps down a little so if I am lucky even if I can't bring the temperature down with range to run the lights for very long hopefully I can keep the water from getting any warmer. I just want to get through this summer so that I can save and potentially prevent this issue in the future.....

I would check Craigslist for a used chiller. I had looked into this as I didn't know when I was going to get the AC put in the garage. I found some reasonable deals in the Charlotte region.

unfortunately I am looking a 2 hour drive one way in any direction of people with chillers for sale and the one I am finding either would be too small or way too huge

we just had the ac go out last weekend! try freezing pop bottles or solo cups of tank water, drop them in when you are able it will help somewhat....keeping in mind SW takes along time to freeze. or 2l pop bottle of tap water then keep the lid on it and throw it in the sump
