LPS corals

Rating: 4 votes, 5.00 average.
I really like LPS corals and find their look to be both fluid and colorful under the right lighting. The bommie section of my tank has a variety of LPS, and when the MH turns off over them, the adjacent MH (to their left) coupled with the VHO actinics gives them an interesting glow every evening from 7pm forward.

Here they are under actinics only

With the normal lighting, they are home to some cucumbers and a serpent starfish, as well as one of my cowries.

Here are a few close ups:

Frogspawn

Hammer

Torch

Branching Hammer

Acanthastrea - okay, this one isn't in the bommie area, but it is LPS and it is a snail's throw from the others.

Also in the bommie are a few Zoanthid species. These can be viewed from the end of the tank or from behind when in the fishroom. They are under 10,000K lighting so they don't pop as much as they would under bluer conditions.

When looking in my tank at the zoas, it doesn't seem like very many. However, if I were to take those clusters and put them in a nano, they'd be nice little colonies. Corals have to really grow in to be notable in a 400g system.

looking good. Hey was just wondering if the mimic you had picked at any thing in the tank before its passing. I really love files and would love to add one to my 180

I never saw it bother anything in my tank. It seemed to nip at rockwork more than anything else.

Wow, the branching hammer looks transparent, and I'm tempted to say bleached but it doesn't seem like it.

That has got to be one of the most unique (opaque white) branching hammer corals I've ever seen. Beautiful coral!!
