Goodbye, 75!

by FlammySnake on 07-10-2013 at 11:32 PM
Well, it's time for my 75 to go. I'm recently engaged and now I'm moving into a real house, but only for a year. Since I don't want to set up that big just to move it again, I put off my plans to go bigger and decided to go smaller. But before I go there.... The last picture I posted of my tank. Now, it's in shambles as I've cleared quite a bit out to friends.....

Colt Coral Spawning

by FlammySnake on 05-12-2013 at 02:33 AM
So I'm writing this at 2:28 EST in an effort to:

Try my best to document the spawning of my leather coral. I've seen hard coral spawn, gorgonians, but have yet to see a leather tree coral spawn. I will update this on Sunday evening with pictures, but for the moment, this is so I don't leave out details I would otherwise forget.

Spawn noticed at approx. 2:09 am EST. All flow turned off immediately to determine source.

by FlammySnake on 04-24-2013 at 10:02 AM
With breeding marine fish really starting to take off in recent years, it's really about time you joined the fun. For most people, the obvious starting point is clownfish. It's easy to obtain good broodstock but spawning can take years of waiting, the babies need to start on live food, and the live food needs fed and raised just as much as the clownfish larvae.

Enter: Banggaii cardinalfish.

Easy to pair, easier to raise than clownfish, and with wild populations in possible

Re-doing, re-aquascaping, re-updating?

by FlammySnake on 04-10-2013 at 10:28 AM
So it's been a couple of months, and I thought I'd give my latest tank update. Last update, I was fully prepared to tear all the way down and start a new challenge. After ridding myself of a few pieces or coral, I essentially re-aquascaped the tank. It's not my favorite version of my tank (because naturally I wasn't happy with that and screwed it all up. Move one rock...), but I don't feel like moving all these rocks again for a little while.

Time to start over!

by FlammySnake on 01-19-2013 at 09:05 PM

So my tank has been going pretty well. Almost too well. My Montipora has been putting on a measured growth weekly, gorgonians open and growing, even my goniopora has grown and attached to nearby rocks.

But I've always been unhappy with the tank.

Last week listening to Gary & Christine's Reef Threads podcast (which is a nice replacement to the Reef Addicts podcast since it is updated like.....NEVER! I'm looking at you Melev!)
