Its drilled with a 1.5 inch drain and two 3/4 inch returns. After doing the math my pump has roughly 4.8ft from pump to return outlet. I found a head calculator for the Eheim 1250 pump which says at 5ft would only produce 139gph.... If so I may need to go with the 1260 right?

You don't want to exceed what the tank can drain. How is the water getting down to the sump? Is this a drilled 80g tank, or are you using a HOB overflow?

The 1250 will produce just under 4 times tank volume and the 1260 will give you just under 8 times tank volume turnover. the ideal is 4 times, but you also have to account for head pressure, and or other things you want to run off of the return pump. I would go with the larger and see how it does.

I have the super reef octopus 2000 and it is an amazing skimmer! The bubble blaster pump kicks butt!!

Reef dynamics is probably the better quality of the two.

Sounds good. I was just told that you must add equal amounts or nothing. Thanks for clearing that up

Equal dosing is the norm, but from time to time you may have to reduce one half or skip a day. Test your alkalinity each day, and resume when it is back to the level you normally keep your tank at.
