Apparently we are going to need a better picture.

thats a mojano for sure! i had those exact ones in my tank and they killed some of my sps when they touched it, they never carpeted like zoa's just spread like apatasia. watch it carefully if you see them pop up hear and there and never carpet i woul start killing them.

I'm pretty sure it's a fire shrimp :-P

My first impression was of an eagle eye zoa as well. They are not always together, as it depends on how they got to the rock. Sometimes polyps become detatched from the main colony for whatever reason... they'll reattach when they land on a good spot long enough.

Based on pics I've seen of the Mojano, this does not appear to be one.

Picture not to clear so I enhanced it with iPhone PhotoShop and it really does look like a Eagle Eye Zoa.

Sorry, I have to disagree. I have seen many single polyp zoanthids and I have seen many colononies of manjanos.

Looks like a eagle eye or watermelon with a less pronounced red ring. Here's a picture of my eagle eyes.



I think ultimately gist should decide for himself since he can probably see the detail better.

I am also slow to kill anything that I have not gotten a firm ID on. Thanks for the resource to ID it with, I have not found it yet but have only looked through a few so far.

From the pictures I can see how one would possibly identify it as a majano, especially looking at the green tips. However, I am 99% sure that it is not a majano looking at it with my own eyes. I will watch it and will not hesitate to "take care of it" if it turns out to be a majano.

Congrats on both counts.

All crabs are opportunist and at a minimum a potential trouble maker. Unless its a mithrax (i doubt it is), I would pull it, but it looks like you are already making a wise decision by shoving him in the fuge.

Blown76mav, it seems that you are quite the crab slayer!
I think to be on the safe side I will try to catch it and put it in the comfy confines of the refugium.

Oh that rock would soooo be out on the floor and sprayed with fresh water, he'll leave. Then a skewer thru its skull and into the toilet. I've banished over 50 this way.

If it looks like this it is a gorrilla crab (type) which is not good. But I'm actually a proponent of no crab is a safe crab. So I'd get it out if you could
