For the moment, the small whisper filter that was keeping water moving before plumbing was completed now has a chunk of sponge filter in it, and it collects lots of fines. Once the tank is clear and the rocks set up the way I want them, the small filter will go away, having served it's purpose. I can see the occasional use of a filter sock to clear water after disturbing rocks in the display. We don't have sponge filters or socks in the small tank anymore at all, and the water stays pretty clear most of the time, with very little sediment ever on the rocks.

It takes time, up to 14 days for plumbing to slime over. It will get more quiet and bubble free over time. A bubble tower is always best, and a lot less work than cleaning filter socks.

Geez Marc, I'm sick as a dog. I'll get pics on here when I can move about the cabin without blowing snot everywhere. I prefer a blog with pics too, I get your point.

Gotta love those great deals. I'll watching for those sales for the next few months myself getting the 150 ready. And, a fellow reefer just forwarded a Craigs list ad to me, Someone in town is selling a bunch of base rock and a skimmer cheap!

If you haven't gone to Best Fish on Old World 3rd Street, you need to get there - best LFS in Milwaukee, hands down!

They have a really good sale going online with their ten pound bags of aragonite for 7 bucks. Didnt think that was too bad of deal, and free shipping to boot.

When we got our first piece of live rock, there were two feather dusters on it. One was a tiny red one, with a white tube growing on the side of the rock, the other was striped brown and white, with it's tube inside the rock. Coraline grew over the red one, but the brown and white one is still there, now about the size of a nickel. I really like them, so I'm glad to find this new one too.

Cool. I noticed one of those in my tank a couple years ago. Now they're all over, and even start growing on the glass and power heads! Very nice.
