I have a similar walkboard for the back of my tank. Instead of 3M non-skid tape, I mixed non-skid sand packet into black paint. This gives amazing traction and looks very cool with the sand texture. I have been walking on it for 3 months now...lots of water on it, and it has not worn off at all. I got the packet at Lowes.

    Stand looks great.
thought you would need at least one vertical support brace in teh middle of the tank or maybe two for a tank this big?

Not to bring up an old topic or anything but I used this yesterday....Total Annihilation! The only bad side effect I can see is around the dead aiptasia there was some coralline algae that had been killed...I assume anyway because it was turned a kind of neon green just like the aiptasia. Thanks for the info!

I am not one to critisize, but people only see things and ways to do things different after something else is built or after its too late.......
If for some reason that your stand has to be Modified, (which everyone hopes it doesnt) you might think of changing the way your board is held.
I would cut your 2in holes in the corners. (this way you can slide your metal holders for the wood in there. then i would also cut a 2in hole in the middle for a support. it doesnt have to go in as far as the outside ones, but just so there is something there.)
that way, when your done, you can pull it out.
now, have him weld 2in square tubing going vertical on the two ends. (you only need a piece 2-3in long.)

now, when your done, just pull it out, and turn it vertical and slide your board in the vertical 2in. this way the board it out of the way to access your sump. and it will only stick out as far as the brackets. (the wood will be close to the tank so it shouldnt stick out further then a few inches.)

but, like i said. Only if it has to be modified. it will be perfect as it is. plus, i can almost promise that you will leave the board in all the time. you will just endup reaching under it to clean the skimmer cup.. (or you will find your self with a Swabbie!! and a container!!)

(i hope you dont take these words as negative. just another opinion.

That's pretty sexy! How is progress on the floor coming, is it actually ripped out and new one poured?

Primarily because I'm an iPhone user. Secondarily because Jessy has one too. There are a lot of iPhone users out there, after all.

Why's it always gotta be about the iPhone?

The cross brace in the center was added, but Perfecto stands don't even have one. They support the perimeter. The glass bottom doesn't touch anything on their stands. I'm planning on using 3/4" plywood and 3/4" foam like my previous tank.

The walkboard will be painted and I'll apply 3-m non-skid tape.

Nice, get you some treads or something for the board. We all know it's gonna be wet when you start reaching into the tank and dont' need your back in any worse shape that it already is from slipping. That or getting your nice new tank done and pulling a Deuce Bigalow and grabbing the tank only to see it fall apart, LOL.

I would have expected a couple more cross braces on the top, I would kinda worry about the plywood sagging while trying to support the tank in the big open areas. I could be wrong and all and don't remember if you are gonna double on 3/4"plywood or not. If you are gonna have 3/4" plywood doubled I wouldn't worry as much but a single sheet will probably flex.

Nice! I like the walkboard. Maybe you covered this already, but will this tank be going in a wall?

That's the goal, I just needed something submitted and approved in time. Now I'll try to get an update or two in, we shall see! Worst case scenario though, I will have updates ready a year before Iowa, lol!

I agree. It already needs an update.

Wes, appreciate if you can compile the app so that it is compatible with iOS 3. Unfortunately, my generation of iPOD Touch cannot be updated to iOS 4.
