wow, not going to be able to setup until after MACNA. . . that isn't until September right? Well at least things are doing well for now, it should all stay pretty stable till your new system can be setup.

Are your dimensions and changes that need to be made figured out yet so you can get started on those? You have about a month to get crackin on them and work out any problems that may arise.

Im ready to put mushrooms and GSP on the pest list anytime

I need to nuke some aiptasia, some majanos, and remove any and all mushrooms!

cruelle - Odds are this has been considered by various manufacturers. As a general rule, the material (glass or acrylic) weakens where it has been heated and bent. A bent area tends to distort your view, something I don't like looking at either.

hey mark, Theres a aiptasia next to the birdsnest in the 4th picture. Get rid of it before you move the rocks or you might rip it.

WOW things are looking great... Marc, has anyone thought of making a glass tank that is curved on the bottom and sides so it would be "seamless tank" so to speak. I know my little 8 gallon bio-cube has curved front glass to it. Just a thought.... chris

Yes, they aren't as pretty with all that has happened. Additionally, they are under two 10,000K bulbs with no actinic supplementation. The LPS corals are under the 20,000K bulb.

I don't want an acrylic tank.

Is it me, or just the photos. Don't the acros look a little stressed (brown) ?

Silly question: Marc, why not build your own tank from 1" and 3/4" acrylic ?

Cookiejar - yes, that's an Acan echinata. It's very aggressive, but the BTA has been stronger along that one side you can't see.

Carl - I don't have a timeline on the new tank yet, but I'd expect it to arrive after MACNA. Last I heard, the leather was floating like a cork in Drew's system, and he was considering taking some cuttings. I have a feeling what I have won't look like much in the new tank at all. It doesn't look like much to me. There should be plenty of space for growth.

    Hat - thanks

Onereef - yes, that thought has resonated through my skull.

Marc, have you had any thoughts of leaving out all leathers and shrooms altogether in the new tank to create a cleaner enviornment for your SPS?

Beautiful Marc! Glad to hear about the minimal loss but still have hope for the toadstool.

that is mostly great news. good job!

when is the new tank to be ready? can you pass out frags of the leather to save it somewhat?

how will you fit it all back in? an impossible task.

Wow, those are some big colonies and looking healthy. How old is that birdsnest? Is that an acan in the 4th pic, in the middle towards the top?

Any new updates on the leather, other corals you got and the new tank?

Marc, good idea on a subpanel dedicated to aquarium equipment, that way you can easily install a transfer switch for your generator.

I see you been real busy "thinking". All great ideas Marc! They have some kind of commercial paint that once its down its down, they use it in big warehouses and such that want strong and reliable floors that will take a beating. When I was a engineer, when I could see, I use to put it down in the plant area. Would be perfect for a fish room. They may sell some at home building supply stores. Look into it, will last a long time. ;-)

I've been thinking about the upcoming tank. Here are the things I know I'll be doing:

    • Concrete - I want to make the fishroom floor even with the floor the tank is on. Perhaps I'll run some PVC through the concrete to run wires or push water through it and not have to step over any ever in the future.
    • French drain - Just because it feels european. LOL - No, I love the idea of a way to control any drainage, and I'll very likely use it for water changes.
    • Steel powder coated stand - I need to get the final tank dimensions locked in, and the stand will be ordered.
    • Electrical subpanel - To get the circuits isolated, primarily. The panel will be on the backside of the wall to avoid humidity issues.
    • New sump - the new sump simply because the older one was made in 2005, but also because I'd like to make the new one longer and a few inches less wide so it will fit under the tank fully.
    • Enlarge the room - I'd like to make a little more room for the water change barrels to fit.

The old walls above and below the tank will be pulled out. I'll build some temporary ones 1' away from the existing one, and secure the 1" foam 4' x 8' sheets to keep the temperature in the house and the dust out. I'll be using a new smaller door to enter the fishroom, and will probably install that door into the faux wall to get easy access during the rebuild.

With the walls out, some rewiring will be necessary to put power where I need it and get power out of the way.

I'm toying with the idea of staining the concrete or possibly putting down floor tile where I walk.

Steven - you don't need to be scared, just aware. I've been watching those seams for years. There are tanks out there that will last 15 years, while others give way in less than a year. It comes down to quality and craftsmanship, and a little luck no doubt. Here's where I started discussing my plans: http://www.reefaddicts.com/entry.php...ges-%28400g%29

Deep Blue - thanks. it's going to be okay, although I would like a completion date to look forward to. Currently I don't have one yet, as I'm still waiting to hear back from the manufacturer.

No, I've not heard anything yet. That's why nothing has been reported.
