When I built the fishroom, I installed a subpanel from a big breaker in the main panel, and from that subpanel I have a pigtail connection that I need to re-wire to work correctly with the generator.

I will turn off the main breaker feeding the subpanel, turn on the generator and have outlets stay plugged in, plus I can run a few cords into various rooms without having any exterior doors open. When the power resumes, I'll disconnect the generator and flipped the main breaker once more.

No, just plug the generator into any 220 air conditioning outlet. Then turn off the main breaker. Of course to do that you have to do something slightly illegal like remove the female plug on the end of the generator extension cord and put a male plug that plugs into your air conditioning outlet. Thats it. It will run your entire house up to the limit of the output of the gennerator. If you turn to many things on, it will just trip the breaker on the generator and you will just have to re set it.
This is illegal because now that male plug on the extension cord will be live when the generator is running so you have to be careful to un plug it after you turn off the generator. But unless you are a sissy, that is a simple way to run your house from the generator without doing anything to the house wiring. I ran my house that way for 20 years and I have been an electrician for 40 years.
Of course if you want to do it safer and legal you just go to Home Depot and buy a generator receptacle which is a 220 outlet with a male plug in it that you plug the female end of generator extension cord into. But that will cost you $50.00 and you will have to connect it to your panel. It only takes a few minutes to do that, but I don't know how much you know about electricity.

    Easily seems hard to believe.

You can easily plug the generator into your house so you don't have to use those cords.

It's easy to put this off since it is a big purchase, but I'd highly recommend you get one. You can save money after a big storm hits your area, as people often try to sell theirs now that everything is back to normal. That being said, having a new one with a warranty is very attractive to me personally.

Nikon has it as well, I thunk it's standard on all cameras...
Yet I find it not that useful in a tank setup where the surplices can be fooled by a passing rock or fish while tracking. In birding for example the clear sky background makes it easier. Could be that I haven't tried it enough as well!

Sounds like you owe us some pictures Midnight.

My canon has AI servo mode specifically for following a moving target in the frame, it usually works nicely. I think this is why many sports shooters prefer canons for action

Yes, and in a tank that has more depth of field, I bet it would work better. This temporary tank has everything close together.

I had a female turn to a male and the two males did fight from time to time. The one that turned wasn't as vivid in color, but came close. I thought that maybe when the primary male died, this one would then finally transition to the same beautiful color. It was a male in my tank for about a year, but a few months ago I found it dead against one of my pumps. I don't have any idea how that happened. It was beginning to change into a male when I set up the 400g in Feb 2011, and a year later it had completed its transformation; it was with me for years before it became male.

Problem with the Autofocus in continuous is that canera will shoot even if the focus didn't lock on subject. I usually use the lock mode and just click the shutter ehile keeping my center focus point on the fish eye, then when the camera locks focus itll shoot. Continuous is more succesfull in bord shots where theres no background to fool the camera...

One question about the male Anthias, did it switch to male in your tank? How long ago did it switch? I notice the wild caught males turn out much nicer in color. I have the same with my Red Sea lyretail male that switched months back and still doesn't look as nice as the males i see in the LFS. Could it be some color enhancer deficiency in the diet or will the colors turn to the bright red eventually?

Midnight, I have one male and four female Lyretails.

Maroun.c, there were several images where the subject wasn't in focus although I trained the lens on the fish in question. I agree it was tough getting the right thing in focus. I switched to AutoFocus-C (continuous) to help. Shooting freehand also can add a risk of blur, but at this speed I didn't expect to have any problem with that.

    Settings:
    50mm, f/1.8, ISO 800, 1/640sec, no flash, manual mode

    Thanks!

The 50mm can be a blessing and a curse!
It does allow you to shoot much faster, yet you have to train to nail the focus as theres little room for error. Thanks for reminding me of the 50 mm as i have been struggling with flash not providing enough reach in the new tank to light up fish past mid tank. Will try a few shots with the 50 mm. 1.4 to see if itll solve it without much need for flash.

You ended up with some really good depth of field for using a big aperture. How many anthias do you have left?

No, I bought a bag of these kind from Home Depot, and replace them as needed. Share a picture of yours.

Have you tried other stick and hooks? I now use the clear ones with the easy to remove thingamajig tab. I hasn't realized till now that the prior ones were the same type.. not the ones that come with the Vortechs.
