Funny how things can change between blog entries. I picked up four new corals at Frank's Tanks last night, got them acclimated, dipped and placed in the 400g. The cyano I was grumbling about was a little bit worse in the frag tank and I decided what am I doing waiting for it to go away when I sell the stuff that kills it sitting on a shelf for my customers? I mean, I sell the stuff I use, so why am I not using it? RedCyano Rx has been dosed. That takes care of that. ...
The reef is just over a month old, and it is going through the normal stuff like annoying algae on the sandbed. Some cyano has been cropping up here and there, mostly in the refugium but also on some spots of sand in the 60g and in the frag tank. I've been debating treating it with RedCyano Rx since that involves a big water change thereafter, but I may just go for it to nip this in the bud. The cyano appearing isn't a big surprise since the tank had a two-night-in-a-row spawning event from the ...
The area under the 60g needed to be better organized. With the stand reinforced with wood panels, it made it easy to secure the various devices in place. It's still a work in progress, but here's a quick update shot. What you're seeing here is part of my Ecotech collection. Two Vortech Mp40w pumps are close by, one on the 400g and the other on the 60g. The large square object is the Vortech Battery Backup. This battery will keep both pumps ...
Its been a few months since I've last updated. Here are a few photos of the tank from last night. Nothing really happening with the tank right now, just letting it hang out and do its thing. I've recently just completed a mini energy/utility use audit in an effort to reduce my overhead/operating costs on my system. I can successfully say that I was able to lower my utility bills considerably by swapping out a 250w MH for a Kessil light and a number of smaller minor equipment tweaks. ...
On January 5, 2013 I posted this picture of the Yellow Scroll coral. It wasn't doing well at all, but I saw plenty of DNA. Here it is today, just shy of 11 months later. Never give up on a coral until there's nothing left. Here's a view from the end of the tank today. iPhones make me lazy...
