Tank Entry

It's been about 2 years since my last reefing experience.

I have decided to get back into things with a tiny little guy!


Picked it up on 11/13/13.

My goal is to get a nice Zoa/Ricordia garden going on. Possibly might get a Goby/Pistol shrimp combo going on as well.

This setup doesn't have a skimmer, it is just a little internal pump moving things through ...

Today I noticed a different form in the substrate, one I'd never seen before. The tank is 4 years old, so that was quite a surprise. I must have imported himwith the rocks and creatures I added on 9/Oct .

Saturday and Sunday, I moved the livestock and rock from the temporary tank to the new ones. After mostly everything was cleaned up, the lights were out and I was quietly at my computer, I spotted the 60g aquarium looked cloudy from afar. Since the water was crystal clear, I was very surprised. With a flashlight, I quickly found that my anemones were spawning - releasing sperm into the water. Yesterday I visited a famous Brazilian veteran aquarist, Mr Joao Basso, he's been in the hobby for some 40 years now (much like Paul B), and in his recent years has experimented a lot with new tank formats and other DIY projects.

Tonight, I applied the black vinyl sheet to the back of the 60g. The back pane of the tank is 24" wide and 24" tall, and the piece of vinyl was larger than that.

I cleaned the back of the tank with Windex and newspaper since that doesn't leave lint or smudges. Next, a spray bottle was filled up with tap water with a drop of Dawn dish detergent. I sprayed the back of the tank to get the entire surface wet.
