  1. Salinity Mystery

I am completely baffled by the upwards creeping salinity levels in my 20 long nano. I have had it running for 3 years and over that period of time the specific gravity has always crept up. I use a properly calibrated refractometer, top off with RODI, and regularly change water.

I've asked around and no one has any idea what could be happening. Anyone here ever experience this?

  2. SPS grows like MAD and than RTN's

This has been going on now for like a month. My tank is a 140 shallow reef tank with T5's. I have two 6100 tunzes for water movement. Run the lights from 4:30 to 11:30. I have a total water volume of 260. I have two 30 gallon breeder tanks plumbed into for sps frag tanks. These are full of water but no corals in them at this moment.
    Water parameters are as follows
    ph 8.4
    Ca 380
    Alk 8
    NO3 15
    NO2 0
    NH3 0
    temps. swing .3 degrees of 77 ...
  3. water parameters

So I finally got me a alk test from Selifert. I tested all the parameters I have test kits for. Here is what I got:

    SG 1.25
    ammonia 0
    nitrite 0
    nitrate >5ppm
    Calcium 300ppm
    alk <14 dkh
    Magnesium No test kit yet

So I did a water change of about 15% hoping this will help drop the alk a bit. I have been using a Kent Marine two part for two ...
  4. Best way to get rid of dinoflagellates?

I have a bad case of the dino's and can't get rid of it. My tank is a 75g 55 gal sump section and fuge in one tank. My parameters are
    ammonia 0
    Sg 1.026
    ph 8.4
    nitrates 0
    nitrites 0
    phos. 0
    mg. 1400
    cal 430
    dkh 9
I have 4 t5 and they are ati bulbs. Got them 3 months ago. I run my lights from 8:30 am to 8:00pm. Can't find a way to get a handle on this and its frustrating me. I have this problem for about 2 weeks. I heard of raising ph but ...

  5. How Do Bio-Pellets Work?

In my previous article I briefly went through my personal experience with bio-pellets over the last couple months. In that article I listed off the benefits to use said bio-pellets in our reef systems, and if I knew of any negative side effects at this point I would have listed those as well. Rather than talk about what bio-pellets can do for your tank, I would like to attempt to explain (from my layman's perspective, forgive me I'm not a scientist) how these pellets work and how they are able to ...
