  1. 4 gal pico update

Quick update on the tank that's headed to my wife's office...

Tank is currently cycling... has some sort of insane ammonia count.. the API test kit's color comparison reads up to 8ppm, but the color the test kit indicates is significantly darker than that, it's something like a deep forest green/teal... cocktail shrimp + a couple of doses of brine shrimp started that process, still waiting for the nitrite spike though...

However i took this opportunity to make ...

  2. Overflow covered from the lights

Over the past two months, I've watched algae grow in the overflow. Since it is lit from the metal halides above, a cover was needed. Now that the fifth and final Durso was installed, the cover could be fabricated and placed over that area.

I decided to make the cover big enough to cover the entire external overflow and overhang the teeth a little. It had to be drilled for the Durso caps, as well as for the Aqua Controller probes.

  3. How to make a hole bigger in acrylic -

So I decided that I wanted to use a 1.5 schedule 80 bulkhead on my new sump. These bulkheads are available at Bulk Reef Supply. These bulkheads are very heavy duty and have a very large gasket.

  4. The weather broke for a day, and I seized the moment to paint

I've been wanting to paint the fishroom floor for over two months, but never had the right conditions. Yesterday, the weather was 64F for the high compared to the day before when it was 85F. I pulled out everything scattered around the fishroom floor, grabbed the air hose from my compressor and blasted dust everywhere, swept up the mess and damp mopped the concrete to get rid of any other dust.

Btw, that cloud was ominous and a lot of it settled on the surface of the reef. Not exactly ...
  5. DIY LED fixture of fun (SOL rip off) part 4

Allot has been done since my last update and I’m happy to say the light is working! And hanging!

I made my black acrylic housings what allow for a piece of glass to slide in, this will protect from spray and splashing.

I used U channel aluminum to attach the 2 units together and hung it with my existing hanging kit from my old fixture.
