  1. DIY - Wiring a Switch to control several Powerheads for feeding time.

    Hello Everyone,

I know on the Melev's Reef Site there is an article on how to Wire up a Switch to turn on/off several powerheads for feeding time...

Does anyone have a link to that post?

I know I can do this, but, it's always better with a little extra help on the side.

    Thanks Aaron

  2. Bonding Acrylic with MEK

someone mentioned in a previous blog that acrylic could be bonded with MEK. Since I can't get weld-on in Alaska without paying huge has-mat charges I decided to try it. The result was disappointing. It did bond the two pieces together, but it was a very brittle, thin bond that was easily brocken by hand. Felt similar to a superglue type bond. So i certainly can't recommend using it for anything structural or that holds water.

    Anyone else have different results?

  3. Jumping in, Head First

So, I'm jumping in, head first, in a 5 foot deep pool. It's possible I will crack my head, or at the very least, bust my lip open, but I'm not one to just walk away from a risk. Okay, that's a lie... I usually don't take too many risks without an ENORMOUS amount of research.

I've kept a 55g FOLR tank for a couple of years now. I've been wanting to do a Reef Tank, but never could get my water quality good enough. 2 things I've learned: 1). having a sump seriously decreases the ...

  4. My brittle star fell apart. What happened?

I noticed that my black and white brittle star hasn't been as active as usual recently, and last night I noticed that one of his legs seemed like it had about a half inch piece missing when he was close to the glass. I was a bit worried, but today it got much, much worse. I saw what appear to be 1-2 inch long pieces of brittle star leg all over the tank, some still moving a bit. The main disc had one leg attached but it looked like the top had come open too. It was as if the whole star just fell ...
  5. Stocking help for the 75g

The QT tank should finally be cycled this week hopefully... and I'm trying to decide what I'm doing as far as fish this time around.

The tank will not be screened, but I do have a canopy going around it with fans shielded from the inside/out and mesh across the back, so I'm thinking I should be ok with some jump happy type critters like my old mandarin that decided to go hardwood floor surfing from the 29g. There's about a 3/4" gap from the top of the canopy to the light fixture, ...
