  1. Biospheres - NP pellets

Coralvue sent me out some of the Biospheres NP pellets to try out on my tank. I've held off for a bit to make sure my tank was stable and in a good position to switch from the Vertex biopellets I've been running since early February.

This bag holds 1 liter of biopellets.

The biospheres are packed in a ziplock sealed bag within the main packaging that also can be resealed.

  2. How I clean filter socks

The one task I truly hate is cleaning filter socks. When I built my new sump for the 400g, I included a filter sock hanger and purchased four socks to rotate through as needed. These are the large 7" filter socks, not the smaller 4" type.

As they get dirty, I pull them out of the sump and place them in a container near the back door, and usually the next day they are put outside to be cleaned later. Well, I had one out there. A few weeks later I had another dirty sock sitting ...

  3. Cleaning Fest

This weekend, my reef got a huge cleaning, tackling a lot of things that I felt needed addressing. My lighting fixture above hadn't been cleaned in seven months, so each Lumenbright pendant was taken out carefully, wiped down, the glass removed and cleaned on both sides, reassembled and reinstalled. The light rack was wiped down of dust at the same time.

  4. RO ASOV won't shut off!

I have an RO unit, 4 stage with a separate DI teed in to allow for non-DI drinking water. I am running a 150 gpd 98% renection membrane. It works very well (750+ tds in, ~20 tds out after RO, zero after DI). The problem is it won't shut off. The ASOV (auto shut-off valve) just pulses, never actually cuts off the brine water flow. I checked and rechecked the installation, using Melevsreef.com's troubleshooting guide. I replaced the ASOV, no help. However it did change. The original did nothing ...

  5. all glass overflow

Hi all, I'm in the process of building a new aquarium set up, and I was wondering if anybody has every removed the ugly black overflows on the all glass aquarium magna overflow. They are just siliconed in place, and I would still have the Durso overflow in place. I just thought the tank would look much cleaner without them. Anybody have any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
