  1. Who Loves the Grey Fishes?

    Why do I like small , grey fishes? Why do I covet fishes and corals that most people find rather uninteresting? Why do I get excited about great Sarcophyton, Acropora yongei, and Fungia specimens way more than I do about almost any other corals? Do I not get out enough? Am I too cool to jump on the bandwagon of new corals? Or, could it simply be that, after several decades in the hobby- I’ve learned to be honest with myself about what I like? Hmm…is there a lesson here? Or even a blog? Let’s see… ...

  2. First tank questions

    Hello everyone this seems to be an awsome site. Im from Canada and we dont really have much in terms of saltwater fish / reef tank option other than a store called bigals.

    Well anyway I started up a 60 gallon tank about 6 months ago and it seems to be doing ok but i got alot of this brown hairy alge growing on my rooks and overflow any idea of how to get rid of it?

    Currently i have 3 astres snails and 10 blue leg hermitcrab as a clean up crew i guess is this good for ...

    It's driving Marc(melev) nuts!

    And besides, once it's categorized, people looking to find some diy lighting help can find it! Or that sweet full tank shot you posted that got buried in new posts can be found and live a whole new life of glory when others are looking for inspiration and find your awesome build!

    But mostly I think it's driving melev nuts.

  5. Light curves of my weather simulator

    First day of vacations, not feeling well, spent most of the day either at the bathroom or sleeping.... at night I was feeling a little better, so I decided to work on the Arduino sketch, try to finalize v1.0 of it. Testing was still needed, so I proceeded with the test generating sample light curves for the various day types. By day type I mean "clear day", "cloudy day of various intensities", "thunderstorm day", each defined by an Okta number from 0 to 8.
