I know we've not talked about this on R.A. since it isn't reef-related, but I just have to say that I'm deeply saddened by the continuing news coming from Japan regarding the massive earthquake (biggest they've ever had), the tsunami, and now the nuclear reactor plants that are basically melting down for all intents and purposes. well it's been a long few months now. first i wanted to move my sump to the basement, both for a larger one, and to take advantage in the cooling, and also to set up a real refugium. so in sept, while working insane hours i started. i get most of the plumbing done except for a few parts that i didn't have time to get. my town isn't well known for having salt stuff, and the only place that sells plumbing parts that i needed was only open when i was working. i still had my small sump running ...
The tank was cloudy white on Sunday after I finished getting everything put in it, not unexpected. It cleared up somewhat yesterday, but it appeared to have regressed today. My guess is that I'm getting a bacterial bloom from the sandbed being disturbed. The makeup of the water that filled the new tank was probably 60-70% 3 day old heated, mixed saltwater @ pH, Salinity, & Temp and 40-30% saltwater that I moved with the tank.
