WTH is This?

Rate this Entry
So I was cleaning out my refugium this afternoon, a little grooming here and there. Is normal I will usually do this a few days before a water change. After turning over a piece of live rock, I noticed these bright green cocoon looking things that I have not ever noticed/seen before.

So I thought I would share and ask, "WTH is This?" Thanks in advance...

Neomeris annulata. Pretty calcium-demanding macro algae.

Is this something I should concern myself with? You say Calcium Demanding, as in will these affect my calcium levels to the point where it is difficult to maintain my calium?

Thanks for the reply, I was very about this new alien showing up...

You'll be fine. They come and go. I have them as well, kinda cool actually.

They are very pretty, and odds are you will never have them to the point of what you saw in that image I linked you to. Even then, I doubt they'd have a major impact on Calcium like a SPS reef can.

Yeah I have a few of these in various spots around my reef and I think they add to the beauty of it. They usually die out after a few months, then a few more will pop up in the same spot.

I had these at one time, and when I say I had them, I mean they were everywhere. Not quite to the extent that you see in Melevs photo though. I did nothing, and eventually they all went away, and were replaced by another type of macros. Like Melev states, these are very beautiful, and if you get them in your display, they will be even more pretty under your lighting.

    Enjoy!

I appreciate everyones feedback. They are kind of cool, it was just something that was growing in the fuge and I had never seen it before. About 6 weeks ago I replaced my cheap fuge light with a 6500K 16" flouresent. I believe the new brighter light is what is causing all the "new" stuff growing.

    Again thanks
