So I have been thinking about doing this for a few weeks and finally getting around to it after trying to get the nitrates down though regular water changes etc. After thinking about it I decided to use the media tray area in my sump made it real easy. Where the red arrow is pointed.

So after taken the media tray out I put in some egg crate in its place, was added to support the screen which went on top of the egg crate like so. I purchased the screen at a craft store for 25 cents and cut it to fit the egg crate.

Next I need something to spread the water evenly over the screen. I had a piece of acrylic which I cut to match the bottom of the media tray including the hole pattern to spread the water over the screen.

Next I had to cut some "legs" to make sure this didn't rest on the screen (only a temp solution tell I get bracket made to hold this piece in place)

So here is the finally result of 30 min of work! Hopefully this helps with the nitrates starting off point is 50- ppm in the tank so we will see where it goes from here. Will also be making a cover to go over the back area where the light is and adding a second light to the set up. the cover will have slots to allow it to breath.
