When it comes to securing corals in our tanks, we need to use putty when super glue gel won't suffice. The 2-part epoxy putty offered by D-D The Aquarium Solution is the brand I recommend most. It is reef-safe, comes in a coralline-pink color, and lasts a long time. I often refer to it as "Deltec putty" so if you are having trouble finding some, try that name instead.

This product has been around for years, but I never did a full write up about it until now.

It's recommended to always wear some type of gloves when mixing two-part putty to avoid absorbing the chemicals in your skin. One presenter described how he used putty for years with bare hands, but one day he had a bad reaction and ended up in the emergency room, and decided ...

For a long time now, I've followed discussion of extension tubes for macro photography. And a few years ago, I looked up what they cost and quickly dismissed them. However, in the back of my mind, I kept thinking "what if those are really what I need to get these stellar macro shots?"

Probably a year ago, I considered getting them again. I talked to someone that had them, and to someone else that had used some... one person said I could use the cheap plastic tubes (less than $10) and I'd be happy. The other person paid $200 for the Nikon brand specifically because it would pass the auto focus information from the camera to the lens itself. The cheap one would not, meaning all focus would be done manually. My eyes aren't young, and I wear corrective lenses daily. I was pretty sure I'd need the camera to focus on the subject more often than not. Plus I had huge concerns about an expensive macro lens connected to a cheap piece of plastic. What if it ...

For the past decade, hobbyists including myself have had to suffer the effects of Acropora-Eating Flatworms (AEFW) and have tried various methods to outwit these terrible beasts. Dips, quarantining, baths, flooding zones with freshwater, adding supposed predators... nothing has truly worked. Corals continue to die even with meticulously heroic efforts employed. It's truly heartbreaking.

Kate Rawlinson has delved into what makes this flatworm tick, and we've featured some of her milestones on ReefAddicts before. She carries the honor of naming these hateful pests that we have called far worse ...
