Thanks for all the help! I built your overflow, and its so sweet!! But, im curious about how you mentioned in your diy about it you'd consider making the all around siphon chamber a 3/4" gap rather than 1/2". I only ask because my return pun has to be turned WAY down to about 1/4 its potential because the overflow can't keep up only due to the siphon. I would love to be able to get a bit more flow going so I can delete one of the powerheads in my girlfriends tank. Thanks for any input, I greatly apriciate it because from what I gather you're pro ahoy swamped.

    Marc,

I was wondering if you and the reefing community are planning any events during the 2nd-11th of June? Reason being, I'll be in Houston Texas (which I believe is where you're located, right?) to participate in a NASA sponsored experiment. Anyway, if I'm right in remembering that you are from the Houston area I would like to know of any events in the area that might be scheduled during that time period so that I can attend. Anything would be great, a lecture, a frag swap, some club tank tours. If you get the time let me know; I appreciate it!

    Marc,
I heard about a comparison you did between different halide reflectors comparing spread, intensity etc. I've tried searching for it to no avail, do you think you could point out to me where that would be found?

    Thanks,
    Tom

    Hey Marc,
Just wondering if you are still fabricating sumps for customers. I know you have been busy with the site and your new rebuild.
    Thanks

I was going to post this as a comment in the 1 year article, but it seems to be closed for comments now, so here you go:

Reef Addicts with its blog + article only format (no forums) is definitely unique.

To me it is a site for sharing my (our) reefing journey through our blogs, which is great and unique, not a site for technical discussions in forums with hundreds of posts (also important but a different need, a different mood, covered by many other existing sites).

Sure, people share their stories in forum based sites with "build threads" but that is so cumbersome, so not the right format.

As I follow other addicts' blogs I can read the specific post, then read back to see more of that reef or that reefer's story, get the context of his/her experience, something only a blog format can give.

Congrats for what you have created, keep up the good work!

Long overdue.

by melev on 05-13-2018 at 02:19 PM
It's been a long time since I posted here on RA, mainly because my focus has been on Melev's Reef. Still, RA is dear to my heart due to all the information that has been stored here over the years, documenting my 400g build and all the discussions we had when blogging wasn't even cool yet.

The 400g is currently 4.5 years old, and doing great. Here's a recent picture.

And the Anemone Cube, which is now being lit with a Radion

Day 1247: Three years, 5 months

by melev on 04-10-2017 at 02:23 AM
If you follow my youtube channel, you've probably heard how I have to get my arms wet and really cull the 400g reef because the growth at the top is shadowing everything beneath, and those things beneath have little chance of living. I hate to have to rip out these big colonies, but there's no choice. Here are a bunch of pictures of the tank today. I've also included some images of the Anemone Cube.

Biggest thing to happen recently was an alkalinity dip. When I see some coral turn

Not what I would do

by melev on 11-05-2016 at 11:52 PM
Had a surprise guest tonight. I was working on something and he and his wife showed up at my door to visit. My tanks were all less than stellar because I haven't cleaned the glass lately, and it occurred to him that he could try using his iPhone 7 Plus to take some underwater pictures. My frag tank is low enough for an easy test. So here are three he shared.

I bought myself this bandsaw over two years ago at the Denver MACNA. It was basically a gift to myself, but I never opened the box until two weeks ago when I started fragging some corals at last. It's pretty impressive, and hence I had to make a video about it.
