I have questions that need answers.
Despite all efforts to deal with the hair algae I had in tank from previous owner i was fighting a losing battle so took the huge step of closing down the tank. The live rock is cleaned and in a container with a powerhead and heater and so is the sand, the coral and fish went to a fellow reefer. I have since stripped the red sea max down thoroughly cleaning the power heads and skimmer (not a nice job as was filthy and covered in scale - which meant the previous owner had ...
so I got a new skimmer last week and it was working ok But it was to deep in the water about 12 inches. I got a stand built and know it sits at about 5.5 inches deep. Manufature recomends 5-8 inches. Could this be causing it to over flow? I have it dialed all the way down both the air and the waterlevel. in the skimmer and its been over flowing for 24 hours st8 now
The question i have is should i upgrade from 250 watt metalk halides to echotech radion led,s or go from BRS 2 part to a calcium reactor? Need a little help on which i should lean to. The bulbs in my metal halide will need to be replaced very soon. and im looking for something more set and forget type of thing like a calcium reactor. plz help me out, input needed very badly. thx all.
im 62 days into my saltwater tank and been cycleing the rock and i just started noticing red algae in my sump. Been doingmy normal 20% water changes every week with Ro water. I have one fish in the sump to help cycle the tank and i only put enough food in that i can see it eat. I just wondering where its coming from. If u can help thanks. I want to take care of it before it becomes a probelm
Reading on line about bio-pellets and Marc has suggested putting the outlet of the reactor towards the skimmer. Has any one plumbed a bio-pellet reactor directly to the skimmer intake? Is it better just to have it pointed at the intake?
