So I hooked up my dual Durso standpipes and I didn't like the results at all. So I looked around for ideas on making the overflow quiet and I came across the "Bean Animal" Silent and Safe Overflow method on Reef Central. I was actually very happy with the results and I created the following video with the test results.
I mixed up around 180G of sea water and started to fill my tank and sump. Once I had the whole system filled and running I noticed that there was water next to my sump. The next morning a noticed a little more water and I started to worry. Luckily when I had my tank built I had them put an acrylic liner along the entire length of the tank. That way if there is a leak in the system it will save the floor. The liner has a 5 inch edge around it creating a bowl. This has saved my many times over ...
The final part of my SCUBA certification involves open water dives this weekend. I'm going to two different lakes, one per day. The car is loaded up with gear and an ice chest will hold food and drinks. What you see in this image are two air tanks, 5mm wet suit, 5mm hoodie vest, BCD, weights, log book, and a few smaller items. Not pictured are my fins, prescription mask, snorkel, and booties. As many of you know I had decided to do a restart on my tank and correct earlier mistakes/lack of knowledge from when I started my tank 2 years ago.
