  1. How to tell if you need a new skimmer...

    Something that it seems that everybody is always considering upgrading is their skimmer...but how can you really tell if you need to upgrade your skimmer? There are the obvious answers like if you skimmer is not producing any skimmate and you have a fully stocked 75 gallong mixed reef tank, you probably need to upgrade your skimmer, but what if you do get "stuff" and your tank is healthy and thriving?...how can you ever tell if you need to seriously upgrade your skimmer.

  3. "Murphy's Law" for Reefer's

    This is a list in progress..... feel free to add your own "Murphy's Law" experiences!

    1.Whenever making a one handed rock or coral placement there is always a snail or hermit in your very spot. I don't care if you only have one of each. they will be right there.

    2. When doing water changes, you can NEVER remember to shut off the auto top off. (even when I write myself a note to remember!)

  5. My first reef tank...the algae cycle is starting

    Okay, it is day 5 for my newly setup 110g tank. If you've been following then you know that I've got an unusual situation in that all the live rock I bought from a local reefer is covered with coral polyps and the used tank setup that I bought came with an adult hippo tang (disclaimer: I didn't seek out to add either of these!). I'm at a point where I've got several questions for the experts. Luckily I think that I escaped any major ammonia spike - my test kit has consistently been 0 or close to ...
