Lighting

I was simply wondering if anyone has built their own LED lighting system. I read two articles online about it and I totally want to try it. I have a 55 gallon tank, it's a fish only system for now because I haven't gotten up to the high end lighting that is required for a reef tank. Just wondering if anyone has tried this fairly new technology out yet. Here are some plans that I found:

So I'm trying to think of the best way to hang my lighting over my tank. I have this sexy tank, and the only lighting I have for it is a 36 retrofit LED and I'll be getting a couple stunner strips to supplement. It seems a shame to build a traditional canopy for it. So I've concocted an idea for a floating canopy/pendant enclosure for it instead. I have been telling myself that I am NOT going to rush this set up. So the DIY stunner strip was a failure. I gave it a chance, and the two daylight bulbs simply overpower the blue LED's.

I decided on ditching the LEDs, and swapping one D-D aquablue + for an ATI blue plus. According to the PAR levels by Grimreefers, this will actually take away about 2 - 5% PAR overall, but give a nice actinic look.

Hi all, my current tank is 240 gallons and the size is 96 x 24 x24
I currently have 4 250 W MH 20K lights. and 4 T5 54W actinics.
however I do not get the really beautiful effect on some of the corals that I would like.
Marc has suggested I go with the 400W lights. Now after doing some research it has been suggested that I get better reflectors and maybe even some of the new Radium or Elos bulbs.
I understand that some of these new bulbs require electronic ballasts.

Since I have decided to go all SPS in my 150g, I decided to toy with going from 150w halides to 250w. I ended up adding a 250w to the middle and leaving the pendants on the ends at 150w.

The new 250w in the middle is a Lumen Bright Mini pendant, with a SE Radium 20K bulb. Now that I have seen how much brighter and better my colors look in person, I think I am going to change them all over to 250w Radiums.
