  1. Ecotech

Well, I decided I had enough of the noise from my 2 mp60's so I upgraded both to the new quiet drives. What an amazing difference! One is now almost silent and the other is at least 80% quieter. Here's where things go a bit sideways. Neither driver will remember night mode. While not a big deal I think all features should work properly. I reached out to Ecotech and basically the new drivers need a firmware update. I tried contacting the retailer I purchased them from to see if they could do it for ...

  2. Ballast issue arose this week

One of the metal halide ballasts became problematic this week. I noticed about a month ago that it was occasionally not lighting the bulb on the left end of the reef, but with a little tinkering it resumed as expected. By tinkering, what I mean is taking down the ballast, cord, socket and bulb and hauling all of that into the kitchen to test it in a different outlet, and naturally it turned on just like when you take your car to the mechanic and everything works perfectly.

New video uploading now to Youtube. This week's topic is about skimmers, and this is going into my system soon. It's the largest NYOS Quantum skimmer, which is brand new to the market. I saw it at MACNA, and they asked me to give it a review so I'll be running it for a couple of months in my system.

  4. Sump Cooling Fans

While I was at MACNA my system ran OK with one exception. One of my sump cooling fans went out and took out the fan controller with it. All the fans were off because of this with the exception of the cooling fans for the LED lighting. The water temp did go up to 82 degrees with the fans out. This was not so bad. The real issue is it could have caused a fire since the the circuit board in the fan and the one in the controller had burnt spots. You could smell that burning smell in the room a couple ...

  5. Hanna phosphate question

I just recieved my hanna phosphate checker (HI713). Tested my water the way the instructions said. Is it possible to have a bad reading after 3 tries? I have green hair algae growing and algae on my sand bed growing for about a month or two. Will it show any readings to measure? i want to make sure im doing something right or not. Ialso bought some phosphate rx should i still dose some to see if i get any readings after the fact?
