  1. Day 91

I don't know how Day 90 snuck past me, but what's another day when it comes to reefkeeping?
Shot under actinics and 20,000K Metal Halides moments ago.

  2. Frag tank images

I've had some requests to see the Valonia tank, er... I mean the frag tank. It's been going since Feb 2011, and could really use a full clean up. I've considered just scrapping it and setting up a different one that is independent of the 400g system.

The frag tank holds 10g, and is made of 3/8 material. It does bow out like the picture indicates, and it's only 8" tall. Rimless isn't really a good idea for longterm tanks made of acrylic. The Mp10 pumps provides flow, and it is lit ...

  3. Day 87: Chalices and more

I love this first chalice, especially under 20,000K lighting.

A little frag was gifted to me by popular vote on DFWMAS, and this is the actual color of the tissue. I used a flash to keep the color honest.

  4. Video: Lobophyllia

I've had people request I do more YouTube videos, and while I do like the idea I have to say that I'm really picky about quality and how the final product appears. The world seems happy to share just about anything, and I'm often quite content to see their offerings. But when I have to do it myself, I seem to have some demanding standards that I need to just ignore.

I spent a few minutes filming different areas of the tank with my D90, the 50mm lens, and a tripod. When I played those ...

  5. Observing life within the aquarium

I moved the Candycane coral to the top of the reef in an area not being hammered with flow. The polyps weren't able to tolerate that pressure and tissue was peeling away. I'm expecting it to recover nicely.

Acropora millepora. I was trying to show the skin of the coral as well as some polyps.
