  1. Mad science strikes again! I made a prototype zapper.

After about a week of researching and thinking and reading some more I decided to try building a "zapper". I don't have any pest anemones but I've been looking for away to remove stray mushrooms without pulling the rock and chiseling them off. After all my reading and thinking I went out and got some supplies. I dug out some non-copper speaker wire and some used oxygen tubing out of my grandpa's garage. I purchased a 12V 600mA power supply, an on\off switch, marine epoxy, a carpenters ...

  2. T-4 days until the glass arrives

by , 11-22-2010 at 12:53 PM (T.I.B.E.T (The Incredibly Big Expensive Tank))
So its another nasty cold winter day here in town, we have some beautiful blowing snow, and some -30 weather. We kept busy, and warm, this past weekend by making one last trip to the dump, cleaning up the floor, getting all of our insulation into the tank room, and getting our blue board up. I also realized this morning that I forgot to buy a door for the tank room. I to buy one sooner rather then later I think.

The glass arrives on Friday, it will just be the tank glass for now. ...

  3. The Marineland 400g is level

And like that, the tank is now level. I ran up to Home Depot and bought some 2" flat aluminum stock. An 8' stick was $17.50, and I cut it up into 6" sections with a jigsaw using a metal-cutting blade.

The aluminum is 1/8" thick. ...

  4. Flow issue

I don't think I'm getting enough flow, but my pumps gph seems to be high enough. What would you do if you had a 90 gallon tank with 2 Koralia Evo 1050 powerheads and a return pump? The ph's are positioned in the back corners both facing the middle of the front pane of glass, and the return is on the back right side pointed straight left. Would you redirect pumps? Add pumps? Keep in mind budget is a concern here. I can't just go out and buy vortech pumps or anything like that.

  5. Sump chatter

Everyone has been asking me about the new sump, and what its layout will be. I'm still thinking about my options, and nothing is set in stone.

I really like the idea of a tunnel for some reason. If I can pull that off, so be it.

If 1" of water drains from the display tank, that equals 13g of water. Plus whatever is in the plumbing. The sump needs to be able to hold any drainage when the power goes out.

The footprint inside the stand is 81" x 32", ...
