  1. Stand and Sump Build - Research and a learning curve

    Over the past few months I have taken my first faltering forays into saltwater aquarium keeping. To say that it has been speed bump free would be... a lie. Among other things I have cracked my tank and killed some of my livestock, but I have learned a lot and am looking forward to the future.   2. Visiting SWFMAS last Saturday

    On April 16, 2011 I attended and spoke at the 4th Annual Reef Conference hosted by the Southwest Florida Marine Aquarium Society. It was located at the Clarion Hotel, providing plenty of space, parking and overall comfort. To start off the day, I was the first speaker and since I was going to talk about sumps and safety, I had to look the part.

  3. Sally, I'm sorry.

    I recently found my alkalinity went to 6.1 dkh. I dosed within a few hours to bring to 7.1 in a 24 period. Will dose again to bring to 8.0 ish... So, I was cleaning the tank this morning and was saddened to see my Sally Light Foot Crab "belly up" on the bottom I know invertebrates are often sensitive to ph and alk swings.... Here are a few pics that I took, morbid curiosity.

  4. My first reef tank...came with fish and corals!

    So I'm new to reefing and very excited to be starting my first tank this month. I've done freshwater plant tanks for many years and always avoided reefs because of the environmental impact. Well, there is no way around the energy consumption, but I realize that the hobby has progressed to the point that there are many sources of captive bred animals, trading and aquacultured products so I bought a used setup off craigslist.
