  1. Substrate?

I just bought some dry base rock from Reef Cleaners. Awsome looking stuff. I plan to add about 40# of live rock to the 200# of dry base rock...and take the time to seed/grow my own.

I asked them for suggestions on where to get substrate. They said to get Southdown from Home Depot, or visit local landscape companies to buy a yard of sand. I am sure people do this, but what are everyones' thoughts? I would obviously seed my sand with live sand from my existing tank.

  2. Spawning event

As I shared recently, I decided to treat my reef for Cyano with Chemi-Clean. It's been about 48 hours so far. To do so, I had to shut down the skimmer for 72 hours, and take the carbon reactor offline as well. That way the meds aren't taken out of the water too soon, which kill the cyano bacteria.

Whilst this is going on, I noticed on Saturday morning that the tank was a little cloudy or hazy. Looking at one of the Bubble Tip Anemones (BTA), it looked like it had been spawning. ...

  3. Scarface Wallpaper Mural

    Hi All,

I recently re-did my husbands office and he really enjoys the movie scarface, so I actually wanted to do the decorate the wall with an orange Sunset mural like the one in the scene where Tony Montana is in Franks office.

I searched long and hard and actually found a coupe of versions. I'm not sure which one to go with?

  4. RO/DI tubing run

To get RO/DI water from my utility room to the new fishroom, I decided I'd run tubing through the false ceiling area above my kitchen cabinets. It's maybe 9' of cabinet area, with space to run some PVC pipe as a guide to push the 1/4" poly tubing the direction I needed it. This is the stuff used for icemakers and to get drinking water from the fridge, sold at Home Depot.

  5. Ethical and not so ethical LFS's

It is interesting how one can tell the difference between LFS's business and ethical/ecological practices when "rubber meets the road"...

Last week I had two distinct experiences regarding fish purchases.

One, at my LFS#2, was them suggesting I get a Desjardini Tang or a Foxface Rabbitfish to eat up my Valonia infestation, even though they knew my tank was a 180L, 60cm cube display tank probably limited in space for those two fish.

    The second, at ...
